Travelling right

It is easy to overload yourself with all the things you think you need for a family outing. Keep to the essentials and keep it light.

Essentials for springtime family outing:

- At least one large bottle of water.

- Sunglasses for everyone in your party.

- Easy-to-eat, non-perishable snacks, such as dried fruit, pretzels and juice boxes, plus one treat (like cookies) to quell fussy kids.

- Change for vending machines.

- Sunscreen, sun-protective lip balm.

- Adhesive bandages for minor cuts and scrapes.

- Antibacterial hand sanitizer (for when public washrooms aren't up to snuff).

- A disposable camera.

- Lightweight binoculars.

- Hats and light-weight jackets.

- Wet wipes and napkins.

- If you have younger children: a change of pants and underwear, and a card listing your name and home, cell and business number (place one in each child's pocket, in case you get separated.)

This list will help to keep the load light, but give you enough essentials to enjoy your day in the sun.
